Boy, they say a change is as good as a holiday but they are talking total crap.
A holiday is as good as it gets.
After feeling like an utter drudge - flattened, bruised and exhausted at the end of 2007 - I have just spent the last 3 weeks on a road trip avec famille - slept, slept, slept, slept, played, played, played, played, ate, ate, ate - well, you get the picture.
Went back to a tiny coastal town in NSW that I had fond memories of as a teenager.
Rounded the final curve in the road before coming into town and got ready to flinch..
'Cos, lets face it, almost any bit of coastal land on the Eastern seaboard of Australia between Sydney and Melbourne has been developed to the max, had its teeth whitened, and is wearing the property equivalent of a shiny silver g-string.
So my eyes are scrunched shut and the stress in my shoulders in killing me and we go around the bend and .... it was almost the same as 25 years ago. Humble, simple, fibro shacks, basic shops and fabulous beaches. I could have cried with joy.
And we had a lovely, simple, humble holiday. Beach, sand castles, reading, eating, talking - oh the utter joy.
Welcome to 2008 - the year of authenticity

Glad they didn't turn your seaside paradise into Atlantic City!
Sorry I haven't been by, but I thought you were blogging on a different site. I am already on several and didn't really want to add another. Mrs. Phos is already thinking intervention if I Blog much more.
Glad you had a nice vacation. I need to make it to Australia one of these days, ti sounds like a cool place.
Hi phos,
completely understand and have been utterly slack in the blogging dept for ages...hoping to ramp up my efforts a bit more this year.
:-)
Good on you! I'll be back!!
'sup???
Sounds fab. You forgot to mention the sharks btw.
Sounds a bit like Broulee on the south coast.
Where ever it was I'm glad you found a little slice of heaven.
Mummy, I have been about as lacking in the blog dept as you have.
Hope you're having a fabulous summer now with la famille.
May 2009 be filled with much joy and laughter.
So then -- just how was your 'year of authenticity', Mummy? Sure do miss you. Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas.
